Popular verified Facebook pages have been compromised by hackers

who then use them to execute malicious ad campaigns on the social media giant. 

The malicious campaign warning of the risk 

was originally discovered by social consultant Matt Navarra(opens in new tab). 

According to Navarra, the campaign's perpetrators started by focusing on well-known Facebook sites

(one of the victims has more than seven million followers and has been active for more than ten years).

If they were to acquire access, they would rename the page to something similar to Google or Meta
